I have the original one with the solid gold medallion on the back depicting Admiral Byrds camp. It's also a chronometer grade movement and is marked as such on the dial . Found it in a coin shop for 35.00 . Its my favorite watch because of the history behind it.

I've been keeping an eye on this watch. There is a lack of real reviews of it - all existing ones are ads. I'll see how time treats it and might snag one eventually

I like the watch and its history but I can’t help but think that it looks ‘cheap’. Not sure what it is, maybe it’s the polished bezel or the name of the untextured dial. I am sure it will be much better in hand though

Excellent dress watch. But I don't think it is as good if it is used as a field watch, which ironically it is actually a field watch.

As my original Explorer was 34mm, the NG def gets my vote, seeing as how the Explorer is far removed from the original.

Checked out the website, I absolutely love this model and the variations. I am biased to this class of watches, but this is especially sharp. Agree on the crown, a knurling would be nice, but even still, this is a winner.

12:40 - It's bizarre that men still associate masculinity with watch size. One thing is taste, another is such a ridiculous "rule". All of the generations of men of the past century so praised today stormed Normandy and such with 'tiny' watches. Besides, a large watch makes the wearer's arm look smaller in proportion.

Interesting, i never associated art decó with the tragic tirannies of the pre-II World War, but with human achievement and other things close to the people's lives (like train stations, bridges). It's sad that public perception made unfair associations post-1945. Perhaps as a side note, here in Brazil art decó' and mainly eccleticism' downfall happened due to the political petty-tyranny of the modernist clique led by men like Lúcio Costa, and their dubious associations. The destruction of the Monroe Palace is the most blatant proof of what was wrong. Not that brazilian modernism is bad - it's great as a style - but its political ties and overwhelming unorganic social influence were disgraceful and disruptive.

A nice retro 50s-style dress watch but too small and the exposed springbar is a no go. Because it has such distinctive design features especially on the dial (markers and numbers) I don't think it is a direct alternative to the very bland and simple explorer but to other watches of that category. I absolutely love The Thing from 1982 and a MacReady action figure has its place on my bluray shelf but the blood and gore movie from 1982 does not fit this watch like the original from 1951. I imagine Kurt Russel wearing some crazy 1970s diver watch because it fits the time, is sporty and you can watch the time in the cold with the bezel.

I enjoy the content you make, but honestly, for the fact that you keep mentioning that you're happy to do what you do and don't mind criticism, you seem to be extremely bitter to anything but your style or interest. You also tell people to wear what they enjoy. Then why do you keep having to hammer on about 'corrupted', 'short attention span' modern brands or experimental issues of known brands? Why does there always have to be a snark remark? It really just makes you sound extremely bitter and childish. Honestly your content would be so much more enjoyable without these very conspicuous, overly 'adjectivised', low-bar, eye-rolling, insults against other brands...

When are they bringing out a man's size? Joking apart, and testily responding to your denigrating comments about manliness, my wrist is 20cm, and 6.5cm wide. Looking at your wrist shots of this very lovely watch, it appears to be comparable to me wearing a 41/42mm. Go figure. Lorier, Nevada, I can only admire. And yes, Mohamed Ali was known for wearing a Cartier Tank (is that right?) but IMO looks pretty ridiculous!

Your final thoughts summed up this great hobby..... the quality of your production is always so great that just when I thought I was done... a watch that wasn't even on my radar suddenly becomes desirable...and it "pulls me back in"... Excellent vintage piece. outstanding in a suit with a white shirt. I am pleased to report to the Gentry crowd that I have purchased a Tudor Ranger yesterday. After much research I have decided on the true watch descendent of Ian Flemings, Bond. It is part of the heritage of Bond as written by the creator, not the modern-day version of Bond's Omegas created by a major corporation as a money grab. When you think about it, Omega has nothing to do with Bond. Go original. Great watch and the best value in today's watch market, with COSC certification and brushed steel tool watch esthetic. "The name is Bond...James Bond". Go original!

How would it be if they made it using a mecha-quartz movement? The WR can be upped. The crown needs to be used only every once in a while. And the advantage of not worrying about a quartz movement. All of these, I think, make it a much easier choice!

I'm really longing for something new, something fresh (no, it's not Hublot). Although I like Breitling, Vortex, Sinn and others I'd go for Casio instead. Where are the trendsetters?
